Why Can't I Recruit New Friends?

Hi!
I want to recruit new friends int the game to get Genimal, but Darwin tells me that I have no friends to invite, yet I know I have at least 1.000 not-playing friends.
Why is that? Do I have to check permissions or s.th? Does anyone has the same problem?
